What makes a song a folk song? There is no satisfying answer to that question. But here I present old songs that don't seem to have a clear author (maybe except "One Meat Ball") and are in the public domain. Of course, I nod my head big time to greats like Dave van Ronk and Rev. Gary Davis who brought those tunes to life for me. But all in all, a folk song is something that lives through its constant use of re-use. It's more of a work in-progress than a fixed masterpiece. And it speaks of the poor, it says weird things, it recounts bible stories. So Folk music is a mixed bag and that's what I tried to cherish in my album "Old Folk Songs".
